This week we cover romcoms, my ‘if I was a hotep living in Flatbush’ playlist and Chiara Voliani.
The world is healing: Something From Tiffany's (2022)
A new(ish) release from Amazon studios and Hello Sunshine, Something from Tiffany’s (2022) indicates that good buttery rom-com may be back. It stars my favourite it girl/rom-com aficionado, Zoey Deutch (Rachel) and the smouldering Kendrick Sampson (Ethan). I'm not going to dive into the entire premise but it centres around a common rom-com plot vehicle. A clear mishap that could have been easily communicated to those involved somehow ultimately acts as the perfect device to faciltiate the protagonist’s great love story. Ugh, perfect right?
Another plot driver, specific and dear to Christmas romcoms is the man having a dead wife and a young daughter who spends most of the movie playing cupid. I for one love assessing Christmas romcom archetypes, they make for a good drinking game whilst watching. Also, props to the display of what often goes unrepresented, black lesbian love. Rachel’s best friend/business partner, Terri (Jonica T. Gibbs) and her wife Sophia (Javicia Leslie) are the only stable relationship in the whole movie from the beginning.
The costume design as a credit to the costume designer, Alana Morshead, is a notable highlight. Both Rachel and Ethan ooze this classic New York fall style.
All in all, good rom-coms may be back!

Stop the madness: minimalistic jewellery is blah
Italian Jewellery designer and all round silver girl, Chiara Voliani is everything I aspire to be. Dripped and adorned in chunky pure silver.

To fully grasp the soul of my jewels, it is important for me that they are seen, touched, observed and that emotion is created as happens in front of works of art.
